I am excited to have been featured on What’s Hamptoning’s blog about my journey to sobriety.
I believe it is important to share all aspects of your story. Not just the good or best moments. I think it’s important to be vulnerable and honest about who we are.
Part of this for me includes being public about my struggles.
Initially, I was worried about what friends or colleagues might say.
I mean who wants people to know that they struggle or that they carry a shameful secret around with them? So far, the response I have received has been overwhelmingly positive and this spurs me on to share more. That someone might read what I say and feel inspired to be true to themselves too.
Sharing my story brings up all sorts of emotions.
I hope I can be even more candid than I am now. That in sharing my darkest moments, my load will be lightened and that someone else may find solace in what I have to say. Some days are easier than others. Some days I just don’t know if I will ever be happy or if I will find the peace I crave so badly.
I’m so grateful that there are people who have found my story inspiring.
I hope my story continues to inspire as I move through the next stages of life and my journey with sobriety. I’m looking forward to sharing resources that have helped me and as I find new things. Thank you for all your support so far. It has made my journey so far a lot less lonely.
